Project Overview


As a Senior Program Manager in Microsoft Philanthropies, I helped lead a large-scale initiative to improve access to Microsoft’s Tech for Social Impact offerings. This program connects nonprofits and humanitarian organizations with Microsoft tools—such as Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Power Apps, and Azure credits—at steep discounts, with accompanying training.

 

The Challenge

  • Despite steep discounts, nonprofits weren’t signing up for the program.

  • The registration process had friction points that confused or discouraged customers.

  • Microsoft needed to improve usability and customer experience to ensure nonprofits could easily access and benefit from these tools.

 

Our Approach

  1. Customer-Centered Research

    • Conducted customer interviews and usability testing to analyze where users faced challenges in the registration process.

    • Used Microsoft Clarity to observe how customers interacted with the website and identify pain points.

  2. Improving the Get Started Page

    • Focused on redesigning the entry point of the process to make registration intuitive and accessible.

  3. Future Vision

    • Beyond registration: Rethinking how to support customers post-purchase and build a stronger sense of community among nonprofits.

 

The Impact

  • 🚀 Increased Adoption: Improvements to the Get Started page led to a significant jump in nonprofit registrations.

  • 🛠️ Improved Usability: Simplified the process, removing friction and empowering nonprofits to access critical Microsoft tools.

  • 🌍 Accelerating Social Good: Enabled frontline organizations to use technology to drive greater impact and achieve their missions.
